TUGUEGARAO CITY: The Philippine National Police joins hands with the Department of the Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in laying out the reward for the captor of the suspect who gunned down a forest specialist in Sanchez Mira town, Cagayan.
Forest specialist Melania Dirain, then officer in charge of the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) in Sanchez Mira, Cagayan, was shot several times inside her office on the evening of February 7, 2012.
The police identified the gunman via a closed-circuit television as Adorable Caligan, 28, of Claveria, Cagayan. Caliga was arrested on Thursday for jumping bail.
Department employees and officials allegedly raised some P200,000 for Caliga’s capture. However, DENR officials said it might be too early to release the reward since verifications of all circumstances and the identification of the real captor is still being processed.
Police officials disclosed that the likely recipient of the reward is Police Chief Insp. Pilarito Malillin of San Mateo, Isabela. However, Sr. Supt. Sotero Ramos Jr., Isabela police director, said Mallillin was in Cauayan City when the information of the suspect’s whereabouts was reported.
Mallillin, a relative of Vice Mayor Bartolome Mallillin of Cauayan City, proceeded immediately to Tappa, Villa Concepcion where the suspect was hiding, and asked him to surrender.
