• DepEd crew tears down ‘pork’-built classrooms

Citing pork funding as excuse, demolition crews sent by the Department of Education (DepEd) tore down 29 classrooms that displaced 400 students of Bagbag High School and Tejeros Elementary School in Rosario town in Cavite.

Both school buildings were built under the government’s Public Private Partnership scheme or the PPP that Rosario residents had now tabbed as “Pahirap at Pasakit sa mga Paaralan [Inflicting Misery and Torture on Schools].”

Mayor Nonong Ricafrente of Rosario said he personally delivered his letter to DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro to clear the issue on why DepEd tore down the 29 classrooms without replacement or rebuilding of a new classroom.

He said not only students and teachers who suffered but the entire populace of Rosario.

”The classrooms serve as buffer that prevents flooding of the overflowing bay. With the demolition, there will be no more floodwall—and there will be floods in the nearby barangay whenever typhoons come,” Ricafrente added.

    1. Article is dead wrong. The demolished classrooms have already been condemned, meaning they are unfit for use. The ABS-CBN report made this clear.

    2. Nimson Ofreneo on

This is one case of inappropriate action by the Department of Education under the watch of Aquino. Assuming that the school building was built with inappropriate funds, why demolish it when it is already paid for and being used by the people. And why was consultation with the local population was not done before a demolition of a public structure is done. Is it because the town mayor Ricafrente is not a supporter of Aquino? If it was source from illegal funding or someone benefitted illegally from the construction of the building those who benefitted illegally should be the one prosecuted or punished by not the students and the local population. And why destroy a schoolbuilding when there is replacement building yet?

    3. Stupid DepEd official should be charged criminally for destroying public property and kicked out from service.
