Citing pork funding as excuse, demolition crews sent by the Department of Education (DepEd) tore down 29 classrooms that displaced 400 students of Bagbag High School and Tejeros Elementary School in Rosario town in Cavite.
Both school buildings were built under the government’s Public Private Partnership scheme or the PPP that Rosario residents had now tabbed as “Pahirap at Pasakit sa mga Paaralan [Inflicting Misery and Torture on Schools].”
Mayor Nonong Ricafrente of Rosario said he personally delivered his letter to DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro to clear the issue on why DepEd tore down the 29 classrooms without replacement or rebuilding of a new classroom.
He said not only students and teachers who suffered but the entire populace of Rosario.
”The classrooms serve as buffer that prevents flooding of the overflowing bay. With the demolition, there will be no more floodwall—and there will be floods in the nearby barangay whenever typhoons come,” Ricafrente added.
