THE Department of Education (DepEd) said an order mandating teachers to prepare a more detained lesson plan stays until Education Secretary Leonor Briones makes a final decision. In a statement, Briones said DepEd Order No. 42, Series of 2016 or Policy Guidelines on Daily Lesson Preparation for the K-to-12 Basic Education Program was crafted to ensure that public school teachers deliver quality instruction based on the principle of sound instructional planning. The guidelines, she added, also aims to help teachers come to their classes prepared. Research showed that common traits that effective teachers share are planning, preparing for and reflecting on their teaching. The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition earlier asked the Education department to reduce clerical tasks of public school teachers by allowing the use of simplified lesson plan preparation and putting a halt to implementation of DepEd Order No. 42.
