DepEd slammed for delayed ‘chalk allowance’

The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) on Wednesday scored the Department of Education (DepEd) for the delayed release of their chalk allowance for schoolyear 2016-2017. The TDC said Metro Manila teachers have not received their chalk allowance amounting to P1,500, which should have been paid last June. Olive de Guzman, a teacher at Morning Breeze Elementary School in Caloocan City (Metro Manila), said the chalk allowance has been released except in Region 9, Region 12 and the National Capital Region (NCR or Metro Manila). They called on DepEd-NCR Director Ponciano Menguito and Education Secretary Leonor Briones to act swiftly on the problem.
