DepEd worker in illegal drug trade gunned down


AN employee of the Department of Education (DepEd) suspected to be involved in illegal-drug trade was shot dead by still unidentified gunmen on Thursday afternoon inside a public school in Agusan del Sur, police reports said on Friday.

Reports at the Philippine National Police operations center in Camp Crame identified the fatality as Rico Tiu, 40, DepEd employee, of Barangay 3, San Francisco, Agusan del Sur.

The reports said that the shooting occurred at around 4:30 p.m. inside the compound of the San Francisco Pilot Elementary School located in the same village.

Tiu had just arrived on his motorcycle inside the school compound when he was approached by an unidentified person and shot several times in different parts of his body, the reports said.

The reports said that the victim was hit three times while the gunman quickly fled towards an unknown direction after the shooting.

Investigation revealed that the victim was among those under the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) watchlist of persons involved in illegal drug activities in the province, the reports said.

Elements of the San Francisco Municipal Police are investigating the killing to determine the identity of the gunman and motive behind the shooting.
