• ‘Depressed’ guard holes up in QC mall, surrenders peacefully after

A sick child became too much to bear for a security guard of a commercial establishment along Edsa in Quezon City as he holed himself up in one of its buildings, alarming his co-workers who promptly called police on Wednesday, June 21.

The standoff at the Eton Centris was brief, however, as the still unidentified guard surrendered peacefully to authorities after members of his family talked to him, Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar of the Quezon City Police District said in a televised interview.

Eleazar also denied reports that there was a lockdown as the incident was confined to one of the establishments, a BPO center, in the complex.

Eleazar said the guard was facing charges of grave alarm and scandal since no one was hurt in the incident and there was no damage to property.

He also assured the man’s family that assistance would be extended to the sick child.
