A Quezon City court on Friday ordered the detention at Camp Bagong Diwa Jail Facility in Taguig City (Metro Manila) of a recently arrested police officer for his alleged involvement in the November 2009 Maguindanao Massacre.
Judge Jocelyn Solis-Reyes of Regional Trial Court Branch 221 in her commitment order directed the transfer of Police Officer 1 Warden Legawan from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) detention center to the jail annex in Taguig City.
Legawan is a member of the 1507th Provincial Police Mobile Group.
In the same order, Reyes directed Legawan’s custodian to bring him to court in the morning of May 12 for his arraignment.
She issued the order after Chief Insp. Rodolfo Gonzales, investigation section chief of the CIDG, said his unit arrested Legawan on May 7 in Bicutan, Taguig City.
The suspect was brought to the CIDG detention center in Camp Crame in Quezon City.
Legawan is the 110th suspect arrested in connection with the Maguindanao massacre where 58 people, including 32 reporters, were killed.
Last week, the Maguindanao Provincial Public Safety Company said they had arrested Insp. Saudi Mokamad, former officer-in-charge of 1507th Provincial Police Mobile Group, at the boundary of Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur.
Mokamad was arraigned on May 7 and pleaded not guilty on the 58 counts of murder filed against him.
Eighty-seven of those indicted for the massacre have not been arrested.
