More development, infra projects lined up for Iloilo

ILOILO CITY: Senate President Franklin Drilon on Friday assured residents of this city and the province of Iloilo of more development and infrastructure projects before President Benigno Aquino 3rd steps down from office in 2016.

Drilon issued the statement shortly after leading the inauguration of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) P230-million roll on-roll off (ro-ro) facility and passenger terminal building in Brgy. Progreso, Lapuz, Iloilo City.

The lawmaker noted that it is only now that Ilonggos are enjoying a substantial share of infrastructure pro- jects coming from the natio- nal government, that was not the case during previous administrations.

Records indicate that Iloilo City has been a recipient of more than P4-billion construction of better and wider roads, bridges, drainage systems rehabilitation of the Iloilo River.

The funding was also spent for the construction of decent housing for informal settlers, Iloilo international airport expansion, and Iloilo International Convention Center.

Citing the critical role played by the PPA in the development of Iloilo, Drilon said a roro facility is being upgraded in the Port of Dumangas, to be used as an alternate port.

Other proposed projects for next year until the second quarter of 2016 include a bridge connecting Lapuz especially the new river port for roro and fastcraft, building of Esplanade III from the provincial capitol to PPP Parola and ferry terminal at the Parola port.
