The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has advised the public against bogus placement agencies offering Filipinos displaced from jobs in Libya with opportunities to work in Malta and the United Kingdom. Citing reports from the Philippine Embassy in Rome, the DFA said that agencies accredited by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration in Malta are only allowed to recruit Filipinos applying for jobs from the Philippines. Jobs in Malta available to Filipinos are in the service sector such as room attendants, cleaners and personal caregivers, rather than in the health sector industry. The department also clarified that there is no placement agency in Malta authorized to find jobs for Filipino nurses coming from Libya, Italy and other countries. “Filipino nurses cannot work as nurses in Malta and the UK without securing the necessary accreditation from the governments of said countries,” the DFA said.
