On Tuesday, ABS-CBN announced the return of the well-loved hosting tandem of Roderick Paulate and Amy Perez, who will take over the reins of the hit musicale game show The Singing Bee beginning Saturday, November 16.
It will be remembered that Dick and Amy mastered the art of hosting game shows back in the 1990s when they were paired to take charge of the most exciting segments of erstwhile noontime show MTB (Magandang Tanghali Bayan), the most famed of which was Pera o Bayong.
Since pursing careers with other networks in recent years, Dick and Amy were given a homecoming of sorts at ABS-CBN, having been longtime talents of the network in the past.
“Hopefully, the show will ease a little bit of our problems at least for the duration of the show,” said Amy, who also openly talked about surviving postpartum depression after delivering her fourth child in January. A hormonal imbalance is said to have caused a row between her and a member of staff in TV5, which led to her eventual resignation from the network.
“Alam po naming napakaraming pagsubok ang dinadaanan ng ating bansa sa ngayon pero ito po kami, itinutuloy ang naitalang press con ngayong araw, at pipilitin na makapag-bigay pa rin ng kahit konting saya sa mga Pilipinong makakapanood ng Singing Bee ngayong darating na Sabado,” added Dick who also currently serves as councilor in Quezon City.
Aware that Filipinos are music-lovers in general, the pair of good friends has high hopes that The Singing Bee will help uplift spirits even of Filipinos around the world who are all distraught over the catastrophe brought about by Typhoon Yolanda.
“Bago pa nung bagyo, nung nagsimula nang patunugin ng ABS-CBN na magsasama muli kami ni Amy sa isang show, mas marami pang reactions mula sa mga kababayan natin sa ibang bansa na excited na excited silang makita ulit kami,” shared Dick who was overwhelmed the response of TFC subscribers over the news on social networking sites. (TFC is the acronym for The Filipino Channel, which is the international cable network of ABS-CBN.)
He is therefore confident that the show will spark weekend family bonding time among music-loving Filipinos who will enjoy guessing the lyrics of chart topping songs from various decades.
In Singing Bee’s pilot episode this Saturday, Carmi Martin, Boboy Garovillo, Ogie Diaz, Eric Frutuoso and Kiray Celis—Dick and Amy’s closest friends in the entertainment industry—will play and compete to win the P1-million jackpot prize.
The Voice of the Philippines artists Isa Fabregas, Jessica Reynoso, Penelope Matanguihan, Maki Ricafort, and Yuki Ito are also part of the game show as resident singers, wittily dubbed the “Songbees.” The “Bandble Bees,” meanwhile, led by veteran musical director Mel Villena, will also stage a comeback along with sexy dancers “Honeybees.”
The Singing Bee will air after It’s Showtime on ABS-CBN, Saturdays, beginning this week. For updates, log on to www.facebook.com/singingbeeabscbn; @TheSingingBeePH on Twitter; and @thesingingbeeph on Instagram. Tweet thoughts and reaction with the hashtag #TheSingingBeePH.
