Diliman Prep bags overall title in 100th PSL National Series

Diliman Preparatory School (DPS) bag­ged the overall championship crown in the Philippine Swimming League (PSL) 100th National Series dubbed as 4th El Presidente—Commodore Jimenez Swim Cup held at the Mariner’s Polytechnic Colleges Foundation Swimming Pool in Legazpi City.

DPS, owned by Sen. Nikki Cose­teng, collected 552 points to grab the top honors in the tournament supported by The Manila Times.

Four DPS tankers led by Cusing siblings—Paul Christian King Cusing and Paula Carmela-copped the Most Outstanding Swimmer awards in their respective age bands.

Record-breaker Paul Christian King, a veteran of international tournaments in Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand, got 54 points to pocket the boys’ 15-over plum while Paula Carmela earned the MOS trophy in girls’ 13-year event with 60 points.

The other MOS winners from DPS, handled by coach Albert Sermonia, are Lee Grant Cabral in boys’ 10-year (50 points) and Ehm Ahmadelle Alavy-Chafi in girls’ 8-year (47 points).

Also winning MOS awards are Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh of Immaculate Heart of Mary College-Paranaque (girls’ 10-year), Aubrey Tom of International Learning Academy of Cainta (girls’ 9-year), Trump Christian Luistro of Legazpi Hope Christian School (boys’ 8-year) and Trisha Anne Oliveros of University of the Philippines (girls’ 15-over).

Sharing the limelight are other MOS winners Behrouz Moham­mad Mojdeh (boys’ 6-under), Estelle Margaret Mendez (girls’ 7-year), Stanly benedict Copas (boys’ 7-year), Timothy Philip Orap (boys’ 9-year), Isis Arnaldo (girls’ 11-year), Luis Joaquin Ventura (boys’ 11-year), Zyrilyn Anonuevo (girls’ 12-year), Brian Patrick Penetrante (boys’ 12-year), Carl Jude Tence (boys’ 13-year), Hannah Imelda Santorio (girls’ 14-year) and Jericho Pasano (boys’ 14-year).

Six new records were established with Micaela Jasmine notching new marks in 100m butterfly (1:15.35), 100m breaststroke (1:39.85) and 50m butterfly (32.01), Paul Christian King in 100m IM (1:03.15), and Ventura in 100m butterfly (1:18.91) and 100m freestyle (1:09.56).

“It was another successful edition here in in Bicol and I am happy to celebrate my birthday with these people. We also want to thank Arlon Rances, Dr. Sofia Jimenez, Mayor Noel Rosal, Commodore Dante Jimenez, PSL Region 5 Director Atty. Ma. Teresa Arao- Mahiwo and Councilor Al Bariso for supporting the competition,” said PSL President Susan Papa.

Placing second in the overall team standings was Dwel Falcon Swim Club (529) followed by Albay Falcons Swim Club (459), Ibalong Mayagon Aquagliders (405), Amateur Swimming Club of Albay (295), Red Fins Swim Club (167), Marikina Aqua Bears (142), Susan Papa Swim Academy-Paranaque (90), Mariners Polytechnic Colleges Foundation (56), Legazpi Hope Christian School (50) and Makati Dophins Swim Team (50).
