A Sandiganbayan sheriff on Monday served an arrest warrant on Lanao del Norte Rep. Abdullah Dimaporo, who has been linked to the P728-million fertilizer fund scam, in a hospital in San Juan City.
Sandiganbayan Sheriff Division chief Albert dela Cruz said the sheriff Romulo Barrozo served the warrant on Dimaporo at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center.
Dimaporo was admitted to the hospital last Thursday after suffering “progressive chest pain” with early assessment of myocardial infarction.
Dr. Abdel Hussein Lucman told the Sandiganbayan on August 1 he had advised Dimaporo to be confined in the hospital.
Dimaporo faces charges of graft and malversation in connection with the fertilizer fund irregularity.
He posted a P30,000 bail in the graft case on Monday. But because malversation is non-bailable, the congressman is considered under hospital arrest.
“There are Sandiganbayan sherrifs in Cardinal Santos to keep guard of Dimaporo. Until we receive further order from the justices as to where we will commit him, Dimaporo will stay in the hospital,” dela Cruz said over the phone.
On Friday, Dimaporo asked the court to place him under hospital arrest, on top of a petition for bail hearing on his malversation charge.
The Office of the Ombudsman alleged that Dimaporo allowed the disbursement of P5 million to buy 10,000 sacks of Saka organic fertilizer.
Inspection and acceptance reports as well as physical and financial status reports were found to have been tampered to make it appear that the fertilizer shipment was delivered to Dimaporo’s office and distributed to farmers.
The Sandiganbayan also ordered the arrest of state agriculturist Isabelo Luna 6th and private individuals Felizardo Dragon, Evangeline Ontiveros, Rosalinda Bisenio and Elmer Sayre of Lanao Foundation Inc.
