At least 200 truckloads of garbage were hauled from the busy streets, including the major Recto Avenue in Divisoria area, in the cleanup after the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
According to the Development Park Services, it will take at least two days to clean up the area.
On Sunday, about 10 firetrucks were expected to spray water on all streets to remove the bad odor from decaying vegetables, fruits, and other stuff.
The 200-garbage trucks haul is on top of the trash from the Santa Cruz and Quiapo areas.
The Manila City Hall said that by Monday, the Recto Avenue is expected to be clear of trash and street vendors.
Filipinos from all over the metropolis and nearby provinces traditionally flock to the Divisoria shopping district every Christmas season to take advantage of bargain-priced children’s toys, gifts, displays, and even grocery.
