Former champion De La Salle University will be gunning for its fifth straight victory and the solo leadership when it battles Far Eastern University (FEU) today in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 77 women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
The La Salle-FEU game is at 4 p.m. after the tussle between University of the Philippines (UP) and winless University of the East (UE) at 2 p.m.
La Salle is currently sharing the top spot with defending champion Ateneo de Manila University with 4-0 each while FEU is in a three-way tie for the No. 3 position with National University and Adamson University 2-2 each. UP, on the other hand, joins University of Santo Tomas in sixth with identical 1-3 while UE remains the only team without a win in four games.
The Lady Spikers are coming off a straight-set win (25-16, 25-20, 25-21) over Lady Maroons last Saturday with skipper Ara Galang leading the offense with 16 attacks on top of three blocks and an ace.
Open spiker Cyd Demecillo and middle blocker Mika Reyes contributed a combined score of 19 points.
The Lady Tamaraws, for their part, are aiming to bounce back from a 19-25-, 25-27, 13-25 dismal loss to the Lady Falcons on Sunday.
The towering Geneveve Casugod and Remy Palma as well as power-hitting Bernadeth Pons, setter Yna Papa and libero Christine Agno are expected to bring their A-game against to stop the Lady Spikers.
