De La Salle University has formally announced the appointment of Aldin Ayo as the new head coach of the Green Archers in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s basketball tournament next year.
The university came up with a solid decision after a series of meetings made by the search committee with the alumni and backers of the Green Archers.
“Upon deliberation of a search committee and consolation with the administration and alumni, La Salle is pleased to announce Aldin Ayo as the new head coach of the men’s basketball team,” the statement said.
The 38-year old Ayo replaced Juno Sauler, who opted to resign last month and join the Star Hotshots coaching staff in the Philippine Basketball Association.
Ayo will be working with La Salle holdovers Jeron Teng, Jason Perkins, Thomas Torres and Season 78 Rookie of he Year Andrei Caracut along with a number of sophomores and rookies as the Green Archers aim to make it to the Final Four next year.
La Salle failed to advance to the playoffs after finishing fifth with a 6-8 record.
Recently, Ayo steered Colegio de San Juan de Letran to its 17th crown in the National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament as the Knights dethroned San Beda College, 2-1, in their best-of-three championship series.
