Defending champion De La Salle University is still leading the overall championship race with four more events left in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 76.
La Salle has so far won five titles, six runner-up honors and four third-place finishes to collect a total of 228 points, just 14 points ahead of perennial title contender University of Santo Tomas (214 points).
University of the Philippines is in third spot with 189 points followed by Ateneo de Manila University (180), Far Eastern University (122), next season host University of the East (119), National University (115) and current season host Adamson University (66).
La Salle ruled the men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s table tennis, men’s tae kwon do and women’s judo; placed second in the men’s swimming, women’s table tennis, women’s tennis, women’s badminton, men’s fencing and baseball; and wound up third in women’s swimming, men’s tennis, women’s tae kwon do and men’s judo.
On the other hand, many-time champion UST topped the women’s tae kwon do and poomsae events then ended up second in the men’s basketball, men and women’s beach volleyball and athletics, women’s fencing and men’s tae kwon do.
UP, for its part, swept the men and women’s swimming events while Ateneo dominated four events—men and women’s badminton, men’s judo and baseball; FEU won the men and women’s athletics; UE reigned supreme in the men and women’s fencing; NU got the men and women’s tennis, and men’s beach volleyball crowns; and Adamson bagged the women’s beach volleyball title.
The remaining events are softball, football, chess and volleyball.
The UAAP awards 15 points to the first placer, 12 to second, 10 to third, eight to fourth, six to fifth, four to sixth, two to seventh and one to eighth.
