DLSU’s Jeron bags Player of the Week distinction

Defending champion De La Salle University posted a six-game winning streak to share a piece of the lead in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 77 men’s basketball tournament.

And Jeron Teng has been an instrument to propel his team atop of the standings with 6-2 mark. He averaged 27 points in La Salle’s last two games to earn the UAAP Press Corps-Accel Quantum Plus/3XVI Player of the Week.

Teng scored 32 points including 21 in the first half, in La Salle’s nerve-wracking 88-86 win over archrival Ateneo de Manila University on Sunday.

“In the first half, I saw some openings for me so I took it, but in the second half, [Ateneo’s] defense [was focused on me]kaya I tried to look for my open teammates,” said Teng.

He also had 22 points, six rebounds and five assists when the Green Archers toppled last year’s runner-up University of Santo Tomas, 83-70, last August 10.

“He makes very good reads and he involves his teammates. The reason why the other guys were scoring is not because of the openings they got but because of Jeron recognizing the defense,” said La Salle head coach Juno Sauler.

Teng got the weekly honor supported by Bactigel Hand Sanitizer, Mighty Mom Dishwashing and Dr. J Rubbing Alcohol over teammate Jason Perkins, University of the East’s Charles Mammie and the FEU pair of Mac Belo and Carl Bryan Cruz.

La Salle, Ateneo and Far Eastern University are sharing the top spot with 6-2 each.
