COTABATO CITY, Maguindanao: Mayor Datu Zamzamin “Zam” Ampatuan of Radjah Buayan town, here reminded Muslim leaders to not be greedy for power and called on them to stop the practice of abuses.
The mayor, who does not deny his ties with the Ampatuan clan of Maguindanao, made his call yesterday as the nation commemorates the 6th anniversary of the infamous Maguindanao massacre on Nov 23.
“The Maguindanao Massacre was an event that all must take a lesson from,” he said.
The Radjah Buayan mayor said that abuse of power among Muslim leaders should be stopped once and for all, adding that “the death of the 58 victims must not be laid to rest and forget how abuse of power and greed destroys social fiber.”
He also underscored the fact that leaders, especially in depressed Muslim communities must not forget that disregard of life and going beyond bounds of human tolerance will bring one into ignominy.
Zam, known to be a peace advocate, was dubbed as among the “good Ampatuans” helped facilitate the surrender of Datu Andal “Unsay” Ampatuan, Jr., a few days after the gruesome Maguindanao massacre.
