Doctor dies but topples Fua dynasty in Siquijor


PHYSICIAN and businessman Jose Jay Samson Pernes, the Liberal Party’s candidate for the lone congressional district of Siquijor in Central Visayas died on Sunday, the eve of the elections. He was 49.

However, he won over his rival, incumbent Gov. Orlando Fua Jr., and his wife, Marie Anne Serrano-Pernes, who was nominated as substitute candidate by the LP, is awaiting to be proclaimed as of press time.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Anne; children Michael Jay and Katrina, Bryan Joshua and Bianca Lynelle, Luke Francis Johann, and Joan Veronica; grandchildren Ken Matthews, Mikah Sophia, Kyle Michaels, Alessandra Ysabella, and Jose Lorenzo Miguel; mother Lydia; brothers and sisters Lolita Pamorca, Vincent, Helen Jesus, Capt. Dwight Sr., Caroline Quili-cot, Comm. Ingemar, Mary Grace Losorata, Clint, and Cyrus.
