DOH gears for zero AIDS-related deaths by 2015

ILOILO CITY: The Department of Health (DOH) has announced that it is targeting to tally zero acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS)-related deaths, zero new Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infections, and zero stigma for suffering from HIV/AIDS by 2015. This was disclosed by Dr. Elvie Villabos, head of the Infectious Diseases and EOH Cluster of the DOH regional office here as the region gears up for the observance of the World AIDS Day on December 1. Villalobos said this year’s theme, “Getting to Zero,” articulates a goal that is very difficult to achieve. Nonetheless, she believes that the goal is attainable since HIV/AIDS is preventable and controllable.
