DOJ to probe Coast Guard for shooting incident


THE Department of Justice (DOJ) has set the preliminary investigation of the Balintang Channel incident last May 9 which resulted in the killing a Taiwanese fisherman last May 9.

According to Prosecutor General Claro Arellano, the preliminary investigation is set on September 9, 2013 at 2:00pm.

The subpoenas were issued against the eight members of the Philippine Coast Guard who were charged by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) after finding sufficient evidence to charge them at the justice department for homicide.

Summoned to appear before the DOJ are PCG officials: Commanding Officer Arnold Dela Cruz, SN1 Edrando Quiapo Aguila, SN1 Mhelvin Bendo, SN2 Nicky Reynold Aurello, SN1 Andy Gibb Ronario Golfo, SN1 Sunny Galang Masangcay, SN1 Henry Baco Solomon and PO2 Richard Fernandez Corpuz.

For the crime of obstruction of justice, the DOJ subpoenad Dela Cruz, Bendo, SN1 Marvin Ramirez at Lt. Jr. Grade Martin Bernabe.

Also summoned in the hearing is the NBI, who will act as the complainant to the case.
The members of the panel who will conduct the probe at the DOJ are Assistant State Prosecutors Juan Navera, Alexander Suarez and Josie Christina Dugay.
