President Benigno Aquino 3rd has appointed Justice Undersecretary Jose Vicente Salazar as the new chairman of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), replacing Zenaida Ducut who finished her term on July 10.
Presidential Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said Salazar will serve for seven years or until July 2022.
“According to the Office of the Executive Secretary, the President signed last Friday, 31 July 2015, the appointment of Atty. Jose Vicente B. Salazar as Chairman of the Energy Regulatory Commission,” Coloma said in a statement.
Salazar, 45, was the DOJ Undersecretary on Energy Matters from 2007 to 2013. He was also the chairperson of the Department of Energy-Department of Justice Task Force on the Downstream Oil Industry Deregulation Act of 1998.
He was also a former Board Member of the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation.
Salazar holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from the University of the Philippines and earned his Juris Doctor at the Ateneo De Manila University.
