TUGUEGARAO CITY: Department of Labor and Employment–Region 2 director Sixto Rodriguez Jr. has reminded private establishments to comply with the 13th Month Pay Law. “Presidential Decree 851 or the 13th Month Pay Law requires employers to comply on or before December 24 of every year. Unlike the Christmas bonus which is discretionary, the 13th month pay is mandatory, and should not be less than 1/2 of the total basic salary earned by an employee within a calendar year,” Rodriguez said. All rank-and-file employees in the private sector shall be entitled to 13th month pay regardless of their position, designation, or employment status, and irrespective of the method by which their wages are paid, provided that they have worked for at least one month during the calendar year.
