DOLE program for workers displaced by typhoon

THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has allocated P50 million for the employment of 12,671 people who were displaced by Super Typhoon Yolanda.

DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the workers will be coming from Leyte, Eastern Samar and Western Samar—provinces which were devastated by the super typhoon. They will receive P260 daily or P3,900 for a 15-day period.

Besides P50 million, the DOLE will also allocate an additional P100 million to be rolled out next year.

“More displaced workers will be employed as we are prepared to roll-out close to P100 million in additional emergency employment funds in January under various DOLE programs with an estimated budget of P42.858 million, and under the Bottom-Up Budget [BUB] of more than P33 million. An additional P15.5 million under the Special Program for the Employment of Students [SPES] rounds up the programmed budget for all of this assistance to Region 8,” Baldoz explained.

She said the workers will focus on the clearing operations especially the debris left by the storm surge.
