DEPARTMENT of Labor and Employment has spent P556.69 million under the emergency employment and livelihood assistance program for the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda, a year after it struck Eastern Visayas.
Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the amount benefitted 98,590 individuals in Regions 4-B, 6, 7, and 8.
Baldoz explained that under the emergency employment program, P113.5 million was allotted for the minimum wage salaries, social insurance and personal protective equipment of 31, 969 people.
“The 31,969 individuals were employed to clear canals and railways, restore health centers and other public buildings, and repair roads and bridges. Many of them cleared public spaces of debris,” she pointed out.
Meanwhile, Baldoz said that at the start of 2014, DOLE has spent P171.253 million for 33,283 people who continued the restoration/rehabilitation of damaged communities.
She said that to date, DOLE has spent P271.94 million as livelihood assistance program for 33,338 people.
