Starting this month, the minimum monthly salary of domestic workers in the National Capital Region (NCR) will be P3,500, according to the Department of Labor.
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello 3rd said the present P2,500 minimum pay will be increased to P3,500 beginning December 15.
“If the salary is already P3,500 or P5,000, then there is no need for the increase. We just set the standard that the minimum is P3,500 for housemaids in Metro Manila,” Bello said.
The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board-National Capital Region (RTWPB-NCR) approved the wage increase on November 30.
The pay adjustment covers “general househelp; yaya; cook; gardener; laundry person or any person who regularly perform domestic work in one household on an occupational basis.”
The wage board clarified that “service providers; family drivers; children under foster family arrangement and any other person who performs work occasionally or sporadically and not on occupational basis,” are not covered by the order.
Any violation of the order shall be punishable with a fine of not less than P10,000 but not more than P40,000 “without prejudice to the filing of the appropriate civil and/or criminal action by the aggrieved party.”
