Trade and Industry Secretary Gregory Domingo remains in his post until his resignation is accepted by President Benigno Aquino 3rd, DTI Undersecretary Ponciano Manalo Jr. said on Tuesday.
Domingo submitted his resignation late Friday and the matter is still being discussed at the office of the president, Manalo told reporters in a chance interview on the sidelines of the DTI’s 4th Philippine Quality Challenge Awarding Ceremonies and Forum.
Manalo said the notice given by Domingo has not caused any disruption to the work of the DTI, especially as the country is in the thick of preparations for hosting the next Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in November.
Several other officials of the government are also working as part of the 2015 APEC National Organizing Committee (NOC) who, Manalo said, are very capable, such as Ambassador Marciano Paynor Jr. as director general of the committee, and Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa, who is in charge of logistics.
Domingo’s resignation has not taken effect, Manalo emphasized, adding: “We’re here to back him up.”
