DOST opens Region12 to global market


GEN. SANTOS CITY: To provide access to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) products, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) launched OneStore, the online store for DOST assisted products across the country.

DOST Onestore is a user friendly online store which houses various products under Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) – food, food supplements, handy crafts, and personal accessories, among others. It also has an integrated payment system for clients in and out of the country.

Through the Onestore, SETUP adopter SMEs can now reach and compete in the local and global market.

DOST Secretary Mario G. Montejo revealed this during the Science Nation Tour held in Region 12 – South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos (SoccSKSarGen).

One of the DOST Region 12 programs in the region is its assistance MSMEs through SETUP that provides technical and technological assistance for improved production capabilities by infusing science and technology interventions.

SETUP provides equipment upgrades, food safety standards consultancies, production improvements, and product labeling.

DOST 12 has assisted 1,500 firms under SETUP that generated thousands of jobs, mostly on food manufacturing.

One of its success stories is Greentropics Coffee Enterprise owned by Fred Fredeluces.

Greentropics manufactures high quality arabica and civet coffee in the region. Fredeluces said his business was brought about by his immersion in the tribal communities. His initial runs encountered problems with productions for lack of better equipment to process coffee beans.

Through DOST 12 Fredeluces received more than P900,000 in equipment upgrading and went through several trainings and seminars.

He said his production grew while the tribal community of B’laan that provides them raw coffee beans was able to live a more decent life.
