ILOILO CITY: The Department of Tourism (DOT) will launch a new tour package connecting three islands in Western Visayas as a major component of “Experience Western Visayas First” tourism program next month. DOT Region 6 Director Helen Catalbas said the Cruise and Drive Tour will allow travellers to visit the islands of Panay, Guimaras and Negros Occidental using the roll-on-roll-off ships and tour buses, vans and coasters during the two nights and three days tour. The package will involve the eight provinces in the region, two city tourism offices and members of the media, Philippine Ports Authority, Marina, Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board, Land Transportation Office, National Economic Development Authority, tourism councils and ro-ro companies. Catalbas said the plan will involve participation of tourism officers and stakeholders from Aklan, Capiz, Antique and Iloilo and the jump-off will start in Lapuz, Iloilo City with a ro-ro vessel to bring at least three big buses and other vehicles to Sebaste, Sibunag in Guimaras and then to Pulupandan in Negros Occidental. The tour will have two nights stay in Negros to transverse the southern and northern Negros attractions, and then from Bredco, Bacolod City for a return trip to Panay through the Dumangas Port in the province of Iloilo.
