ILOILO CITY: The Department of Tourism (DOT) regional office is pushing for accreditation of establishments in Western Visayas so they can avail of incentives from the government.
The move is also an opportunity for establishment owners to assure their clients of safety in food, accommodation and transportation.
DOT Regional Director Helen J. Catalbas said that when a tourism establishment is accredited, visitors and tourists are assured that the owners and management of establishments have complied with internationally recognized standards for facilities and services.
Catalbas clarified that accredited tourism establishments will have incentives such as inclusion of company profile in DOT websites, where database-related information on all accredited establishments in the country is made available for foreign and local tourists and travelers’ consumption.
They are also entitled to subsidized human resource development seminars like bartending courses, tour guiding and front office management
Catalbas said that as of July 7, 2015, there are 125 DOT-accredited tourism-oriented and tourism-related establishments in the region.
So far, there are 15 tourist transport operators, 40 resorts, 23 hotels, one apartment hotel/apartelle, 2 tourist inns, 13 restaurants, two spas, 7 tour operators, 7 tour guides, 6 specialty shops, 4 tourism recreation, one department store and mall, one adventure and ecotourism facility and three agri-tourism farm sites.
