DOT to promote PWDs-friendly tourism


ILOILO CITY: The Department of Tourism (DOT) regional office here will host a two-day seminar that will focus on creating awareness in persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the tourism industry. DOT Regional Director Helen Catalbas said that in line with the agency’s commitment to promote a barrier-free tourism industry, the Office of Tourism Standards and Regulations, DOT central office and the regional office, in partnership with the National Council on Disability Affairs will hold the seminar-workshop on November 17 to 18 at Hotel del Rio. Other topics to be discussed are making tourism establishments accessible to PWDs, universal design for barrier-free tourism, non-handicapping environment and web accessibility. The seminar will also conduct sensitivity training of PWDs elderly persons who travel such as the orthopedically handicapped, visual and hearing impaired.
