• DOTC picks Veterans Hospital as ITS North Terminal site

The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) is now finalizing a deal to build the Integrated Transport System (ITS) North Terminal at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Quezon City.

“We’re working with Veterans… That seems to be the site . . .” Transportation and Communications Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya told reporters on Thursday.

“’Yung MOA namin [Our memorandum of agreement] with the DND [Department of National Defense], that’s what we’re working on,” the Cabinet official added.

“There are other [possible locations, but]there are issues . . . At least in the case of Veterans and DND, they welcome it,” Abaya noted.

The project involves the construction of a terminal for various modes of mass
transportation in North EDSA that will maximize road use by reducing vehicle volume and improving the flow of traffic along Metro Manila’s major road, particularly EDSA.

It will give passengers from Northern Luzon access to city bus, taxi, and other public utility vehicles serving inner Metro Manila.

The department said that the project calls for the construction of passenger terminal buildings, arrival and departure bays, public information systems, ticketing and baggage handling, and park-ride facilities.

The private partner will design, construct, and finance the terminal as well as operate and maintain the facility. The concessionaire has the option to go into commercial development that generate revenues.

    1. Passengers need not take a jeep, taxi or bus to connect to the train station. Thus the proposed transport terminal should be beside the train terminal. As a taxpayer, I appeal to Abaya and other players to please complete the long delayed interconnection of the train system along EDSA,SM North.
