The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) will open the bidding later this year for the P1.4-billion Common Station Project that will connect the two existing rail lines in Metro Manila.
The Common Station Project will link the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1), Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) and the future Light Rail Transit Line 7 (LRT-7) with a common station that will be constructed at the TriNoma Mall located at the intersection of EDSA and North Avenue in Quezon City.
“Common station is at TriNoma [Mall in Quezon City]. We’re just reviewing the technical side where the turn-back system would be installed,” said Transportation and Communications Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya.
Constructing the common station at the TriNoma Mall is expected to result in a savings of P1 billion for the project cost.
Abaya said the DOTC will start the bidding in the second half of 2014, while construction of the common station will take a year.
On November 21 last year, President Benigno Aquino 3rd and his Cabinet approved seven infrastructure projects worth more than P100 billion, which included the P1.4-billion Common Station that should connect LRT-1, MRT-3 and the future LRT-7.
