Dozens of fishermen rescued from stormy seas off Zamboanga

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police rescued over three dozen fishermen during a storm off Zamboanga City, officials said.
Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, a regional police spokesman, said the fishermen in seven boats who were caught up in bad weather were rescued over the weekend.
He said Sr. Inspector Chester Nitro Natividad, Labuan Station Commander, together with personnel of 3rd Maneuvering Company of the Regional Public Safety Battalion 9, led the rescue of 16 fishermen who work for Rumlin Nuval Fishing Company based in Cauming town in Bohol.
The boats just arrived from Cebu City and were being towed to Tawi-Tawi because of the weather when the vessels’ cable snapped and they capsized.
Police also saved fishermen who were in four boats off Ayala village and brought them ashore.
