The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Zamboanga del Norte has allocated P991.83 million to be used in upgrading two coastal roads to spur economic growth in the province. DPWH Regional Information Officer Carla Miñoza said the upgrade would also address the traffic congestion along the Rizal-Dakak-Dapitan coastal road and will provide a new link between Dapitan City and the municipalities of Rizal and Sibutad, Zamboanga del Norte. The upgrading project involves the concreting of the existing 41.558-kilometer road, 6.70-meter wide carriageway and will also pave way to the construction of concrete sidewalk, slope protection, bridges and other minor structures. The project also includes the replacement of two temporary bridges in the area.
