EVEN before assuming the Senate Presidency, Sen. Franklin Drilon has started distributing committees to the members of the new majority bloc in the chamber.
Sen. Cynthia Villar on Thursday confirmed that Drilon talked with senators to assign committee chairmanships.
With majority of the senators behind him, Drilon is perceived to be the next Senate President.
He used to be the campaign manager of the Team PNOY coalition.
Sen. Loren Legarda had earlier said that Drilon would definitely be the next Senate President for having the number to regain the post he previously held.
In the case of the Nacionalista Party (NP) senators, Villar said they are already settled with the committees they wanted.
Villar has requested for the Committee on Agriculture in line with her advocacy to provide livelihood to poor Filipinos.
She said other NP senators would be given the following committees: Sen.Antonio Trillanes 4th, National Defense, Pia Cayetano, Youth, Women and Family Relations, and Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr., Local Government.
Villar, meanwhile, said Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano would likely be the Senate Majority Leader.
“In terms of the primary committee, we are already settled, but with regards to the second committee, it is yet to be finalized,” she added.
