TACURONG CITY: A big time suspected pusher of prohibited drugs in Sultan Kudarat fell Sunday to government hands with the arrest of a man and seizure of more than Php1 million worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride, police said Monday.
Chief Insp. Esmund Lamanzares, chief of police of Esperanza town in Sultan Kudarat province, said Mohammad Hadji Malik was arrested after weeks of surveillance operations on his illegal activities.
After his illegal activities were confirmed, Llamanzares coordinated with the provincial and regional intelligence agents for a raid to be conducted “as soon as possible.”
With everything confirmed, the team, composed of Esperanza police, the regional intelligence division backed by Army forces, a raid was conducted on a safe house of Malik in Sitio New Tarlac, Barangay Villamor, Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat.
During the raid, Malik tried to engage lawmen in a shootout but was hit in his leg. He is now recuperating at a hospital in Isulan, the capital of Sultan Kudarat province.
Llamanzares said the raid resulted in the confiscation of several huge blocks of shabu worth more than a million pesos, drug paraphernalia, ammunition for cal. 45 pistol and a cal. 38 revolver.
The raiding team also seized P10,000 cash marked money.
Malik will be charged with violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2000 and illegal possession of firearms. PNA
