A suspected drug peddler who tried to avoid policemen conducting a checkpoint along Roosevelt Ave. in
Quezon City was shot dead after a brief chase.
The victim, Danilo Esparagoza, was third on the drug list of the Masambong Police Station 2.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director Sr. Supt. Guillermo Eleazar Esparagoza was a notorious drug courier and peddler in barangays of Pag-asa, Sto. Cristo, San Antonio, and Veterans, all in Quezon City.
Esparagoza was intercepted at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at a check point led by Insp. Erwin Guevarra. Instead of slowing down, Esparagoza, who was on board a motorcycle, fled. He was immediately chased by policemen and was cornered at Road B and Road A in Barangay Veterans Village, Project 7. When he was about to be arrested by the operatives, he drew his firearm and fired at the police operatives who retaliated, killing him instantly.
Esparagoza was also the driver-cohort of drug courier Dennis Ofilada who was arrested on September 18. The former was able to escape.
Recovered from Esparagoza were 27 sachets of shabu and one caliber .38 revolver.
