KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato: Police authorities here believed supplies of illegal drugs in the city have been tremendously reduced as a result of an intensified campaign against the prohibited substances since President Rodrigo Duterte assumed office. But Supt. Barney Condes, Koronadal City police director, believed that persons engaged in illegal drugs simply lied low to avoid the heat of anti-drug police operations. Condes attributed the weakening of supplies to declining number of persons arrested for drugs. He said intelligence information showed that the supply was scarce and the price had gone up. “Overall, the campaign was very effective,” Condes told dxOM-AM Radyo Bida Koronadal. He said users who remained at large continue their illegal activities and since prices of shabu had gone up, drug dependents resort to robbery to raise money. Meanwhile, in partnership with the local police, the Catholic Church here helped rehabilitate 24 drug dependents who earlier surrendered through religious integration. The Diocese of Marbel has trained, reintegrated and given spiritual nourishment to drug users who graduated from a month-long Parish Renewal Experience.
