• Drug user village chief, 5 councilmen surrender


    BAYAMBANG, Pangasinan: A village chairman, three councilmen and the secretary of Barangay Iton, and two other barangay councilmen in the village of Beleng of this town who admitted to be drug users were among the latest surrenderers to the police. Senior Supt. Ronald Oliver-Lee, provincial director, identified the surrenderers as village chairman Roderick Casingal; his three councilmen (kagawad) Bruno Baltazar, Gavino Junio and Edwin Camacho; and Ronald Gabriel, barangay secretary of Barangay Iton. The two others in Barangay Beleng were Randy Ocampo and his cousin Leopoldo Ocampo. They surrendered to the town police chief, Supt. Cirilo Acosta, on August 27 and August 30. Casingal was named by the arrested drug pushers to be one of their clients. The village officials confessed they decided to surrender after a series of drug-related killings in the town, one of the victims pf which was a barangay chairman in San Nicolas town who was gunned down on August 30.
