Drug violence rocks NCotabato state college

COTABATO CITY: A health official in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) has sought the intervention of President Rodrigo Duterte and Philippine National Police (PNP) Director Gen. Ronald dela Rosa to put a stop to violence in a state college in North Cotabato where his brother serves a professor and is one of the victims of violence.

Dr. Kadil Sinolinding, ARMM health secretary, said the attempt on the life of his brother Dr. Harris on August 2 was related to his campaign against illegal drugs and graft and corruption in the Cotabato Foundation College for Science and Technology (CFCST) in Arakan, North Cotabato.

“President Duterte and PDG [Police Director General] dela Rosa, please help save the school and the children from crooks in the school campus. Save CFCST, Reform CFCST, rebuild CFCST,” Kadil said.

Harris, CFCST college professor, was driving his car on his way to school when two men riding a motorbike ambushed him. Four shots were directed toward the driver’s side but all missed Harris.

Without identifying the brains and the attackers, Kadil was convinced his brother’s relentless campaign to rid the school of illegal drugs and graft and corruption was the motive in the ambush.

“Dr Harris is a staunch anti drug and corrupt crusader, environmentalist, teacher and a father,” he said, adding those opposed to current school officials have been shot separately.

“We always wanted peace, but you asked otherwise. We wanted amicable settlement of your professional squabbles, but you want the other way,” he said apparently addressing school officials.

“What else do you leave us? What do you think shall we respond?” he said “We are people of the law. And people of strong belief. Sana maliwanagan na kayo bago mahuli ang lahat [I wish all of you will see the light before it is too late]. May the effect of drugs dissipate from your brain soon so you can all think and function well,” Kadil said.

Violence have transpired in and out of the state college where the victims were school officials, students and stakeholders of CFCST.

About two months ago, engineer Cedric Mantawil, CFCST planning officer, was injured when unidentified men onboard motorbike ambushed him in President Roxas, North Cotabato while home-bound on a motorbike.

Kadil believed the attempt on his brother’s life was related to the Mantawil ambush and the death in 2014 of then CFCST vice-president Dr. Delfin Moreno after he spearheaded protest actions against CFCST school administrators because of corruption.

“We urge President Duterte and PDG Dela Rosa to order a full investigation in these cases,” Kadil said.

Speaking to DXND Radyo in Kidapawan City, CFCST president Dr. Sam Molao denied any hand in the Harris ambush and all other violence in and out of school.

Instead, Molao said the attempt on Harris’ life could be from a personal grudge.

The CFCST, former Children’s Education Foundation Village, benefits highlanders and people living in the wetlands.
