BAGUIO CITY: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) office in this city has given an assurance that politics will not affect the implementation of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).
DSWD Cordillera Regional Director Janet Armas said the agency has looked into the issue to ensure that the upcoming 2016 local and national elections will not affect the 4Ps’ implementation. She stressed that no politician has a hand in the selection of 4Ps beneficiaries and this was clarified to all local government units and to the beneficiaries themselves.
In ensuring that politics will not affect the 4Ps household beneficiaries, the DSWD is strengthening its ‘Bawal ng Epal” campaign and Family Development Sessions.
“You, our partners, in the information offices and media, will also play an important role in such advocacy campaign,” she said.
Meanwhile, Social Welfare Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman earlier released a statement of advice to 4Ps beneficiaries that they are free to decide, choose and express their beliefs and rights on issues concerning their lives and their communities, given the concern that the program can allegedly be taken advantaged of by politicians in the upcoming polls.
’Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program beneficiaries are empowered individuals and have the right as other voters in this country to choose someone whom they believe epitomizes their principles,” Soliman stressed.
“During the Family Development Sessions, we tell them about active citizenship and voting according to their conscience. But we never impose on them to vote for a certain political personality,” she added.
To date, there are 60,831 4Ps beneficiaries in the Cordillera region.
