CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro: A total of 1,600 relief packs are initially housed in a warehouse in Batangas City which will serve as a pick-up and delivery point of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to typhoon-Ruby-affected places in the provinces of Oriental and Occidental Mindoro and Romblon.

Wilma D. Naviamos, regional director of DSWD-Mimaropa (Mindoro Marinduque Romblon Palawan) said the goods are ready to be shipped to the said affected island provinces once the no-sailing policy is lifted.

As of this time, no passenger ships are allowed by the Philippine Coast Guard to cross the sea between Batangas and Mindoro and other neighboring provinces due to rough seas.

Naviamos said 1,690 food packs were sent to the Philippine Naval Base in Cavite for distribution to Romblon while 18,000 repacked goods will be shipped to other towns across the region.

“We are closely monitoring all typhoon affected areas in the region and we make sure that all the needed augmentation, especially relief goods are distributed at the soonest time possible,” Naviamos said.

The Department is closely coordinating with the Office of Civil Defense which provides manpower in the distribution of the goods.

Repacking of additional food packs in the Department’s warehouse in Malate is on-going, said the DSWD official.

There are at least 15,000 families which are sheltered in various evacuation centers across Mimaropa with no report of casualty, she added. PNA
