DSWD releases P5.2M worth food packs to Mindanao

THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) announced on Thursday it distributed more than P5 million worth of food packs to several parts of Mindanao. Social Welfare Secretary Corazon Soliman said a total of 14,622 food packs worth P5.263 million were given to 125,228 families or 626,140 persons in North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat in Region XII, and Maguindanao in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. The income of the families in farming and planting were severely affected by the massive drought caused by El Nino phenomenon. Soliman said out of P5.2 million worth of food packs, 10,000 packs amounting to P3.6 million were released through the office of Secretary Lulu Antonino of the Mindanao Development Authority (MINDA) that were given to affected families in General Santos City and 600 packs were sent to families in Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat province.
