The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 6 recently held a workshop on budgeting for local government units (LGU).
In a statement, DTI said its Region 6 division held an orientation and workshop on Bottom-Up Budgeting (BUB) in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.
The two-day event on March 29 and 30 provided knowledge on BUB guidelines, documentary requirements, and implementation.
BUB is an approach to formulating the budget proposals of national government agencies, taking into consideration the development needs of poverty-stricken cities and municipalities identified in local poverty reduction plans.
Those invited to attend this week’s workshop were officials and representatives from the LGUs of Binalbagan, Hinigaran, Kabankalan, Pulupandan, San Enrique, Silay, Sipalay, Talisay and Victorias.
In addition to these, other representatives from the LGUs of Bacolod, Candoni, Cauayan, EB Magalona, Moises Padilla, Murcia, Pontevedra, Sagay and Valladolid were invited due to the spillover of projects from last year.
Speakers that attended were officials and representatives from regional branches of government agencies including the Department of Budget and Management, Bureau of Small and Medium Enterprise Development, and Department of Interior and Local Government.
The BUB orientation followed the first BUB session in Antique last February attended by different LGUs in the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras and Iloilo.
For 2016, DTI Region 6 has allocated a total of P31.06 million budget to 21 LGUs for the execution of 29 approved projects in Western Visayas.
