DTI ties up with Robinsons to showcase OTOP Program

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is partnering with the country’s supermarket giants to showcase goods under its One Town, One Product (OTOP) Program.

DTI and Robinsons Supermarket launched on Thursday their partnership to support OTOP Program products as the latter will have Island Favorites section in nine major Robinsons Supermarkets.

In its Island Favorties section, Robinsons Supermarket will be featuring locally made products, mostly food, such as Ilocos Fish Crackers, Cebu Dried Mango Chips, Memer Durian Candies, Peanut Kisses, El Tesoro de Cebu Turrones de Mani, Pampanga Chicharon, and Bundy Wine, among others.

“As a Filipino retailer, we feel it is our responsibility to highlight the best of the Philippines’ products. Through the Island Favorites section, our consumers can be assured of the wide variety of pasalubong choices at competitive prices and of excellent quality—the same standards of DTI’s OTOP Program,” Robinsons Retail Holdings Inc. President and COO Robina Gokongwei-Pe said.

Robinsons is the first retail giant to partner with DTI to feature OTOP Program goods.

Moreover, Bureau of Domestic Trade Promotion Director Rhodora Leaño told reporters at the sidelines of the launching that DTI’s tie up with supermarket giants in the country will give bigger product distribution chain for OTOP Program products.

“We want them to grow and expand their market,” Leaño said.

For the partnership with supermarket operators, DTI endorses manufacturers under the OTOP Program which can meet the supermarkets’ standards and have the capacity to supply in bulk, the DTI official said.

“Supermarkets will be selecting from the group of manufacturers we endorsed to them,” Leaño added.
