Dumagats trained to protect Angat Watershed


MALOLOS CITY: Members of the Dumagat tribe in Bulacan have started their training to protect areas of the Angat Watershed in Norzagaray, Bulacan from forest fires caused by illegal human activities and global warming. At least 11 members of the environmental watchdog Sagip Sierra Madre Environmental Society Inc., 10 of them are from the Dumagat tribe, joined the group’s initial forest fire prevention training on Tuesday aimed at preventing widespread degradation of the watershed. In particular, the volunteers are guarding 10-hectare area of Sitio Suha in Brgy. San Mateo, Norzagaray which is part of the Angat-Ipo-La Mesa water system that supplies majority of Metro Manila’s water needs.
