Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has endorsed the candidacy of Rep. Amado Bagatsing as mayor of Manila.
Duterte declared his support to Bagatsing after he was declared the presidential candidate of the PDP-Laban party.
“I believe in the integrity of Congressman Amado Bagatsing. He has passion; he has a heart to change and serve the people of Manila, especially the poor. Amado, together with his Kabaka, dedicated almost his entire life to serve the poorest of the poor. And definitely, I will help him by giving him my full support for his campaign to preserve the peace and order in the city of Manila and battle against poverty, corruption, criminality, and drugs,” Duterte said.
The lawmaker thanked the Davao mayor for his show of support.
“I am thanking Mayor Duterte for the trust that he has given me as his official candidate for the mayoral race in the City of Manila. The Duterte-Bagatsing partnership in Manila is the testament of our vision to achieve change in the city for its residents. Manila represents the entire country so change must start here,” Bagatsing said in a statement.
Bagatsing will be pitted against re-electionist Mayor Joseph Ejercito Estrada and former mayor Alfredo Lim in next year’s elections.
Kabaka is a registered local political party.
Among its candidates are Councilor Ali Atienza for vice mayor, Manny Lopez for representative first district, re-electionist Rep. Carlo Lopez for second district, Councilor DJ Bagatsing for representative of fourth district, Kristal Bagatsing for representative of the fifth district, and re-electionist Rep. Sandy Ocampo of the fifth district.
