President Rodrigo is expected to show up today at a rally where thousands are expected to flock at the Quezon
City Memorial Circle (QCMC) to show him their unwavering support.
Organized by the Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte National Executive Coordinating Council (MRRD-NECC), composed of people who initiated a gathering of one million people at Manila’s Rizal Park (Luneta) last year for Duterte to run for President, the QCMC rally is dubbed “People’s Call for Patriotism.”
The gathering, which will start at 7 a.m. and end at 5 p.m., carries the theme “A support for President Duterte is a love for the country.”
“This [rally]will be a manifestation of support, our oneness to support his [Duterte] advocacy. That so many changes are now happening,” according to John Castriciones, undersecretary for operations of the Department of the Interior and Local Goverment (DILG).
Castriciones said the rally is also organized by the September 26 Movement, composed of personalities who invited Filipinos to assemble at the Luneta to convince Duterte to run for the presidency.
“The President had already signified his personal commitment that he would join the rally,” he added.
The DILG official noted that some small sectors seem to be “trying to maintain the status quo” or “block” the President’s advocacy for a clean government and other plans for the country.
The convergence of people at the QCMC, he said, “will show that we are really one in supporting and fighting for him [Duterte].”
A medical mission, job fair and other activities will be held along with cultural performances and speeches from leaders who supported Duterte’s presidential bid.
Food for the gathering will be shouldered by the same supporters who also donated their time and resources last year for show of force at Luneta.
