PRESIDENTIAL aspirant Rodrigo Duterte vowed to appoint Albay Gov. Joey Salceda as chief of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) if he wins in May.
Duterte made the pronouncement during a joint meeting of Albay’s Provincial Development Full Council and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Friday, which was presided by Salceda.
“If I win the presidency, you’ll be the NEDA chief, Joey,” Duterte said in a speech.
Salceda is a party mate of administration standard-bearer Manuel Roxas 2nd, who has engaged Duterte in verbal jousts.
The Davao mayor said Salceda is a friend and respected colleague as he clarified that his visit in Albay had nothing to do with politics.
Duterte and Salceda were both members of the House of Representatives from 1998 to 2001.
“To pay a visit to Joey. We are friends,” Duterte said, explaining his presence at the joint meeting.
Salceda served as economic adviser to former president and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
He was a member of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD but bolted the then ruling party in April 2010 to support the presidential bid of then Sen. Benigno Aquino 3rd, his classmate in college.
